Illustration Friday: Warning

Illustration Friday's topic for this week is 'Warning'. So I had an odd thought: since so many men are apprehensive about "going bald", why not draw a kind of cartoon about those fears, just to show that they may be a bit exaggerated...? So here is my 'Warning', with literal signs, for those who may be concerned about such things. Hope you enjoy! Comments are always welcomed!

Illustration Friday: Swarm

This is my 'Swarm' of bees around their hive. This is perhaps not the most inventive idea in response to an Illustration Friday topic; but it was fun to do, nonetheless! Comments are always welcomed!

Illustration Friday: Layer

For Illustration Friday's topic this week, I thought of the way in which people buy a number of gifts, especially for children, for birthday parties and such. Have you ever 'layered' one gift on top of another, and then tried to carry the entire layered stack without spilling or breaking any of the gifts? I have! But not with the good results this boy has (so far).....  ;-)

Illustration Friday: Reverse

This week's Illustration Friday topic is 'Reverse'. I thought, what if a person's skin color is reversed - i.e., applied to surrounding objects, clothing and so on; and the colors of the environment are applied to the human? So this is what happened when I tried. Enjoy, and Comments are always Welcomed!

Illustration Friday: Surrender

Well...the first things I thought of, with the Illustration Friday topic of 'Surrender', were some kind of 'Gunsmoke' shoot-out scene from the Old West; or a Bank Heist interrupted (he-he); or A Woman, blonde & beautiful, swooning over god-knows-who.... But those are just too cliche for me.

It took a ton of time to come up with this idea; yet, it was right under my nose (in my past experience): The type of 'Surrender' that so many people are so familiar with, when we submit to, & go, EVERY BLASTED DAY, to a job we do not like! Or even hate! The 'Cubicle Life', made so popular by the comic strip, 'Dilbert'. And, as with 'Dilbert', we watch the clock...all day! And the deadening sameness, routine, drudgery of it all. If that isn't 'Surrender', I don't know what is.

I've 'Been there, Done that' and am so Grateful to not have to 'Surrender' in this way nowadays! To those who are in this situation now (& you know who you are): take heart! This too shall pass...

Illustration Friday: Dusty

This week's topic for Illustration Friday is 'Dusty'. When I read this, I thought of a man I used to know, who worked for the public works department, and whose name was 'Dusty Rhodes'. LOL. Ahem. :)  Anyway, I've been playing around with ideas for Children's Illustrations lately, so my mind went to a peaceful scene (Granny Bunny) interrupted by a forceful event that blows dust everywhere...... Hope you enjoy - Comments are welcomed!

Illustration Friday: Chicken

Well! This week's Illustration Friday theme is 'Chicken'. At first, I thought of all sorts of scenes where humans, especially children, feel timid or fearful; where they likely fear bullying or intimidation if they don't bravely do something real scary to them. Then it occurred to me: what would an actual CHICKEN do, if he/she were scared, in some human situation where children often are just that?

So here is my Chicken, having sprung from the diving board in front of everybody........ And all of the chickens in this community are shown as headless, as if they are running around 'headless', feeling dizzy, because every one of them is too frightened to try this........

Illustration Friday: Deja-Vu

Illustration Friday's topic for this week is 'Deja-Vu'. I had a heck of a time thinking of things to fit this theme, that could be drawn on two-dimensional paper. Then I remembered being a young girl, out on the ice skating rink, going around and around, who knows how many times, and loving it. I recalled that, each time I would skate in the direction of the mirror that covered one entire wall, & then turned the corner and skated alongside it, I would think to myself, "I've been here before". Or, "I've seen you before", and I'd giggle. So here is a children's illustration rendition of "Deja-Vu".

Illustration Friday: Resolutions

If you squint your eyes, you should be able to see a 9-part, mixed resolutions picture of Manhattan, NY.

For Illustration Friday this week, I decided to play around with different pixel sizes & resolutions: how do they affect what we see? How might they be distorting what we think we see? And how can they help to clarify what we see? The only 'correct resolution' (photograph & unaltered) in this image is on the lower right. This was a FUN project!
